2026 Volvo XC90 vs. Audi Q7 Comparison with Price, Specs, & Photos

Volvo XC90 vs. Audi Q7 Comparison

The Volvo XC90 is popular thanks to a mix of sophisticated luxury and unbeatable practicality. Even the size, which straddles the line between midsize and fullsize, makes for a much more usable vehicle. Not many vehicles really compete with the XC90 directly, with a comparable price, power plant, and size, but the Audi Q7 fits the bill surprisingly well. So how does the Q7 actually stack up to the XC90? We’ll have to take a closer look to find out.

For this comparison, we’re looking at the base trims and standard drivetrains for both vehicles, in order to make this as evenly matched as possible. Pricing is very similar, and both vehicles come with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, an 8-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive. Power output is also very similar, but the differences start to appear when you look at fuel economy, where the XC90 has a noticeable advantage. An even bigger advantage comes in the form of towing capacity, where the XC90 offers a competitive capacity, although it really doesn’t need to in order to outdo the Q7. Both vehicles are offered with more powerful drivetrains, but the XC90 also offers an additional plug-in hybrid drivetrain that comes with quite a lot more power than any drivetrain offered for the Q7, and is far more efficient to boot.

With such similar pricing, it would be reasonable to expect similar levels of equipment, but that somehow isn’t the case. You get bigger wheels on the XC90, and just upgrading from the standard 19-inch wheels on the Q7 to a set of 20-inch wheels costs nearly two thousand dollars. Heated 2nd-row seats, a heated steering wheel, and a wireless charger will tack on even more to the price of the Q7. Then there are the features that you can’t have on the Q7 even for more money, like a hands-free tailgate. And even though both vehicles come with the same four years of emergency roadside assistance coverage, it’s only the XC90 that also includes a spare tire, just to be sure.

Winner – Volvo XC90

The clear winner here is the Volvo XC90. Not just for quantifiable reasons like better fuel economy or superior standard equipment, although it offers those too. The sophisticated styling and high quality materials, like the genuine Orrefors® crystal gearshift that comes standard on the XC90, are also areas where the XC90 excels. This shows how the XC90 remains so popular, by being such a superb all-rounder. Let Germain Volvo Cars South Hills help you find the XC90 that’s right for you.
