About the Volvo XC90 Plug-In Hybrid
There was already a lot to like about the Volvo XC90, but the XC90 Plug-In Hybrid manages to make the Volvo flagship model even more appealing. Not only is it significantly more efficient than either of the mild hybrid drivetrains offered for the conventional XC90, but it’s quite a bit more powerful as well. But everything you already love about the XC90 remains, from the comfortable seating for seven to the 5,000-pound towing capacity. The interior is spacious, and the styling is sleek and modern without being divisive. The advanced technology of the XC90 Plug-In Hybrid makes it far more versatile, not to mention safer, which has always been a top priority for Volvo. The XC90 Plug-In Hybrid is exceptionally well-suited to whatever you need it to do.
What the Critics Say
“The XC90’s interior is a masterpiece of the medium. From the attractive design to the quality of the materials, we wish there were more vehicles like this.”” – Car & Driver
“The three-row XC90 has a handsome interior with top-notch materials, room for up to seven occupants, and an expansive cargo area. It’s loaded with advanced tech and safety features, and it offers engine options that provide great fuel economy and reasonably zippy performance. This is especially true of the T8 plug-in-hybrid variant.”” – U.S. News & World Report/p>
Volvo XC90 Plug-In Hybrid Features

Powerful Efficiency
The XC90 Plug-In Hybrid is propelled by a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine mated to a PHEV drivetrain. Total output comes to 455 horsepower and 523 lb-ft of torque, a significant increase over even the most powerful conventional drivetrain offered by Volvo, and enough to achieve a 5-second 0-60 time. That’s sports car levels of performance from a three-row SUV. This is helped by the fact that all-wheel drive comes standard, which is also part of the reason for the impressive 5,000-pound towing capacity. The PHEV delivers outstanding efficiency as well, with a combined fuel economy rating of 58 MPGe, as well as an all-electric range of 32 miles, more than enough for many people to complete their daily commute without using any gasoline at all. Recharging is quick, too, with a completely drained battery charging up to full from a 240V charger in just 5 hours.

Sophisticated Style
Volvo draws from its Scandinavian identity most in the areas of design and luxury. The design emphasizes clean lines and high-quality materials over flashy gimmicks, making for a cozy cabin that’s easy to use and incorporates what are easily the most comfortable seats you can find in a vehicle. Upholstery options include nappa leather or a premium textile option for an animal-free interior. And even the gear selector is made of genuine crystal, supplied by Orrefors®, a Swedish glass manufacturer. Speaking of glass, the panoramic glass roof comes standard, giving the interior lots of natural light for an open and airy feeling. Comfortable temperatures are found throughout the cabin as well, thanks to four-zone climate control, a heated steering wheel, and heated first- and second-row seats, all standard equipment.

Advanced Technology
The incredible PHEV drivetrain is only the start of the list of advanced technological features in the XC90 Plug-In Hybrid. Much of this is focused on safety, with standard features including things like Lane Keeping Aid, BLIS™ with Cross Traffic Alert, and Adaptive Cruise Control. There is also an available head-up display, so you can better keep your eyes on the road without missing important information. Infotainment is run by a highly advanced, Google-built-in operating system that is as easy to use as it is responsive, all using a large 11.2-inch central touchscreen. To go with this, you have a choice of two different premium stereo systems. The first is a 600 W Harman Kardon Premium Sound System that comes with 14 speakers. That’s an impressive system, but for audiophiles who want even more, there is the 1,410 W Bowers & Wilkins system, which bumps the speaker count up to 19.
