About The Volvo XC60 Plug-In Hybrid

Volvo XC60 Plug-In Hybrid

The XC60 Plug-In Hybrid combines everything you already love about Volvo’s best-selling model with a potent PHEV drivetrain. In addition to an incredible amount of power, this drivetrain makes the XC60 far more efficient than even the already-impressive fuel economy of the mild hybrid model. This is good news for fans of the XC60, as well as compact SUVs in general, since the XC60 Plug-In Hybrid is one of a very small number of vehicles in this segment that offers a PHEV drivetrain. And for a truly unique option, there is a Polstar Engineered trim, which gives the XC60 Plug-In Hybrid chassis tuning from the firm that has helmed Volvo’s motorsports presence for years. You certainly won’t find a performance option like this from the competition.

What the Critics Say

“Not many plug-in hybrids can boogie like this XC60 in hybrid mode. Its 455 horses ran free at our test track to the tune of a 4.7-second sprint to 60 mph and an eye-popping speed of 107.6 mph at the quarter-mile mark. That squares with the real-world experience, which is one of never-ending thrust from idle until you’ve had enough.” — Edmunds

“With interior styling and rich materials that mirror more expensive Volvos, the XC60 is like having your kladdkaka and eating it, too. The quiet, comfortable cabin also provides adult-sized accommodations in both rows. Clean lines and high-quality materials add a distinctly Scandinavian flavor to the XC60’s cabin-and we’d expect nothing less from a modern Volvo.” – Car & Driver

What’s New For 2026

The XC60 Plug-In Hybrid got a mild reworking for 2026, including a new 11.2-inch infotainment touchscreen in place of the old 9-inch unit. This new screen also comes with a software update that makes for improved graphics and better processing speed. On the exterior, there is a new grille and a tweaked taillight design. There are new wheel options and three new paint color options: Forest Lake, Aurora Silver, and Mulberry Red.

Volvo XC60 Plug-In Hybrid

Serious Performance

The PHEV drivetrain is the whole reason why the XC60 Plug-In Hybrid is counted as a separate model from the conventional XC60. That might seem excessive, but Volvo’s T8 drivetrain really is that impressive. For starters, it produces a system total of 455 horsepower and 523 lb-ft of torque. Those are proper muscle car numbers, and the XC60 Plug-In Hybrid is able to go from 0 to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. That’s a full two seconds quicker than the conventional XC60, an absolute eternity as 0-60 times go. Yet the drivetrain is just as impressive when it comes to practicality, providing up to 35 miles of all-electric range on a full charge, and a combined fuel economy rating of 63 MPGe. It can even tow up to 3,500 pounds, just one more thing it does better than the other vehicles in this segment.

Volvo XC60 Plug-In Hybrid Interior

Sophisticated Styling

The XC60 is an outstanding example of Scandinavian design, luxurious while still sophisticated and restrained. The emphasis is on quality materials and functional design, rather than flashy gimmicks, with options including driftwood trim and nappa leather upholstery. Even the gear selector is made of genuine crystal, produced by the Swedish glass artisans at Orrefors®. The XC60 Plug-In Hybrid sounds great too, coming with a 220-watt 10-speaker sound system as standard, with the option of a 600-watt 14-speaker system made by Harman Kardon. Or if you want to really push the sound to the max, there is a 15-speaker Bowers & Wilkins High Fidelity Audio System with 1410 watts in total power. A dual-pane panoramic roof comes standard, and there are two levels of interior ambient lighting.

Volvo XC60 Plug-In Hybrid Driver Display

Advanced Technology

Advanced technology is the whole purpose of the XC60 Plug-In Hybrid, starting with the advanced drivetrain technology, but it doesn’t end there. Adding to the quiet and smooth operation of the drivetrain, there is available active air suspension, which scans the road 500 times a second to respond to conditions and give you the best possible ride. Five selectable drive modes let you customize your driving experience, and the available head-up display makes it easy to keep your eyes on the road. Even the dual-zone climate control system in the XC60 Plug-In Hybrid is more advanced than you’re probably used to from other manufacturers, incorporating air quality monitoring and an available air purifier that works automatically when an excess of things like ozone or exhaust gases is detected.
