About The Volvo EX30
The EX30 is an excellent example of how seriously Volvo takes vehicle development. There aren’t many subcompact electric SUVs on the market, and Volvo really didn’t have to try very hard to rule the segment, but they made the EX30 an absolutely superb vehicle anyway. Incredible power, great range, a comfortable interior, and the sophisticated Scandinavian design that Volvo is known for all contribute to the undeniable appeal of this city dweller’s dream vehicle. The EX30 is available with two drivetrain configurations, a choice of two trims, and there is even an available Cross Country configuration with higher ground clearance, skid plates, and additional body cladding for light off-road use. There’s something for everyone with the EX30.

What’s New for 2026
There are only two changes to the EX30 for 2026, but they’re both huge changes. The first is the introduction of a single-motor, rear-wheel drive drivetrain. Though still quite potent, this new drivetrain noticeably lowers the starting price of the EX30 this year, and adds a few more miles to the maximum range. The other change is the addition of an optional Cross Country configuration, which adds a surprising amount of off-road capability to the small SUV.

Electric Performance
The standard drivetrain in the EX30 is a single-motor rear-wheel drive configuration that produces 268 horsepower and 253 lb-ft of torque. That’s quite a bit for a subcompact, as evidenced by the 5.1-second 0-60 time that comes with this drivetrain. But for those who want more power, you can add a second motor and all-wheel drive for a system total of 422 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. That’s enough for a 3.4-second 0-60 time, the quickest of any production Volvo model ever. The single-motor drivetrain gets better range, but it’s not a huge difference, 261 miles versus 253 miles in the twin-motor version. Both versions are rated to tow 2,000 pounds, exceeding the ratings of quite a few larger vehicles. And if you want to take all of that performance off-road, the EX30 Cross Country is an available configuration with unique wheels, a higher ride height, skid plates, flared fenders, and additional body cladding. You won’t find a more capable subcompact than the EX30.
Versatile Interior
The interior of the EX30 is classic Volvo, with an emphasis on high-quality materials and functional design that maximizes space and comfort. For example, the glovebox is centrally located in order to free up additional legroom for the front passenger. A large, vertical touchscreen sits in the center of the dash, and works on a Google built-in operating system similar to Android Auto, although actual wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are compatible. However you use it, the touchscreen allows you to control the Harman Kardon Premium Sound system, which comes with 9 speakers and a 1,040-watt output. This alone is an incredible thing to find as standard equipment in a vehicle in this price range. Volvo has also put a lot of effort into sourcing natural materials, like flax trim and wool upholstery, for a cozier interior.
Advanced Safety
Safety is very likely to be the first word that you think of in connection with Volvo, and the EX30 very much lives up to that reputation. A major part of this is the long list of standard driver’s assistance systems, since there’s no crash that’s safer than the one you don’t have in the first place. That means systems like a 360° camera, self-parking, and a system for detecting when the driver is drowsy or distracted are all either standard or available. There is even available Pilot Assist, a hands-on semi-autonomous driving mode that reduces driving fatigue and lets you arrive in a comfortable and alert state. Advanced sensors around the vehicle can see things the driver can’t, and react quicker than is humanly possible. There is even a standard door opening alert, which is important on a vehicle that’s so easy to parallel park, so that you don’t open your door and have it taken off by a delivery van. Because this is Volvo, and safety shouldn’t stop just because you’re parked.
